This is Alfred a sweetheart of a Pom ~ I let my friend Paula have (her first Pom) a couple of years ago. She was taking him and Nellie (the other one she got from me) upstate NY and she stopped at a park to let them go to the bathroom. The dog was on a leash and all of a sudden while she was watching Nellie, Alfred starting coughing and choking. She rushed him to nearest vet, but it was all ready too late. He had gotten a chicken bone and punctured his lung. She has been looking for another Pom like him ever since. She bought some ~ rescued some, got them all s/n and adopted out. She still has Nellie and Spanky and another little cream she bought named Albert, but the face is not like Alfred! ~Nellie Passed Away 07-16-05~

KiKi was thrown out an NYC apartment window on September 11, 2001. After the vets checked him over, he was only bruised and no broken bones. He was neutered, micro-chipped and shots updated. He was then released to us for adoption from the NYC CACC . Joan and Jim drove all the way from Ohio to get him to his new home. KiKi was just a little love and really enjoyed the ride as he had his toys and the entire back seat to stretch out and play. He is now living as king of his domain in his new home!

Andy passed away 12-08-02
Poor sweet Andy...Patti went to Staten Island CACC to pick up some dogs we had on hold for rescue, when they told her about Andy, a senior blind Yorkie that no one wanted. Patti called me and I hurried to find a foster home that could care for Andy until we could find him his forever home. Andy needed major vet care that cost over $865.00 by the time he was finished. We found Andy a home with a lady that takes blind senior dogs. He has been back to visit me and is just the happiest little guy and gets around very well.
We would like to thank Cathy Maziejka of Pug Rescue that helped us to find Andy a foster home in an emergency!

Anna Lee was a Black Miniature Schnauzer who came to us from a breeder on Long Island. She was still a baby but was too small to breed and not housebroken. So we got Anna Lee spayed and all her vet work updated. She lives with a nice family and two lovely little girls in Suffern, NY.

Bambi was the saddest case I have seen in a long time. She came to me in the middle of the night with 3 other Chihuahuas that had to be out of the shelter before morning PTS. Bambi had 4 crippled legs, but her will to live was beyond belief.
Even when my vet questioned if I was putting her to sleep, I said NO, I could not do that when she struggled so hard to survive. Bambi was adopted by Patti Vandia and became so attached to her, that she would crawl across the floor to get to where ever Patti was in the room. Bambi passed away this year and is dearly missed. In our hearts we know she was able to see there was kindness, love and compassion shown to her and now she rests in peace until we meet again.

Bruizer had a family & boy he loved. One day they moved away and left Bruizer in the shelter. He sat in the corner of the cage trembling, waiting for his owner to come back. Then, all of a sudden, he was taken, put in a crate & went almost 300 miles from his home! Little did he know he was going where he would be safe and a new forever home was waiting for him. Bruizer is so happy now and he will never go to a shelter again

Boogie Bear was adopted after 3 1/2 years to the perfect home right down the road from us ~ then we finally had room for Bailey.
Boogie Bear is a Husky/Shepherd mix that was rescued when someone asked me to feed their dog while they were away. Once I saw that dog tied to a tree stump with a chain and horse clip hanging from his neck, the only way I said I would take care of him was he would come home with me. Well that was in winter 1997. Bear (who I affectionately called Boogie Bear, because he look like he could scare the pants off you) was taken immediately to the vet, to be neutered, HW tested and have all his shots. Bear probably weighed around 50 pounds of bones when we got him.
When the owners returned a month later, they never even asked how Bear was or wanted him back. Boogie Bear stayed with us until May of 2000. I wasn't really pushing to find him a home, but was just waiting for that special person and place ~ so one day a lady that I had sent a Memorial letter for the passing of her dog (which I write for my vet) contacted me and she was ready to find a new companion and wanted a BIG DOG! Wow, this was fantastic ~ Boogie Bear was about 110 pounds now and he was a Big Dog! The family came to meet Bear and fell in love with those big bear hugs he gives.
He went home that week and I gave them a six foot chain link pen to attach to their garage so he could go in and out if they weren't home.
Since then, we have seen Boogie Bear at the vets and he is absolutely beautiful.
The secret of this whole miracle adoption is that my darling Boogie only lives one mile from my house......that was truly the Special Home I was waiting for.

Boomer was kept in a wire crate 24/7 for years, because the owner did not want to put him to sleep when he nipped at their child. Finally he contacted us to help find Boomer a home. Boomer came with emotional *baggage* after being with one owner for six years. When he came to Second Chance Boomer NEVER saw the inside of a cage or crate again.
It is with great appreciation to Small Paws Rescue (Cathy & Ken Briody) for fostering Boomer to work with him and find him a forever home.

 Petie passed away 11-02-04
Petie is a tiny little senior dumped in another Maryland shelter. He wasn't neutered and his teeth were rotten. We had all his vet work completed and put him up for adoption. That is when Elena contacted us that she fell in love with his photo. Elena lives in Westchester County, NY and does French Bulldog rescue. Mr. Pete is now the head of the household with all the little Frenchie girls and boys.

Cheech and Chong were rescued out of a shelter in Maryland. They stayed with us for quite awhile until they were able to be adopted together. Chichi and Chonga (aka Cheech & Chong) now live in PA with Dee and have other little seniors to lay in the sun with.

This handsome senior boy was turned in to us because of his owner being ill. He was adopted by Wendy, who had been looking for a little guy like him for a long time. When he struts down the village street Bambino is truly the gentleman star of Woodstock, NY.

My first Pekingese rescue. He lives with my Aunt Kathryn in Las Vegas, NV. She flew all the way to New York so he could fly back inside the cabin with her!
We are heart broken over the passing of Booty on August 4th, 2005. Booty will always have a very special place in our hearts.
